86-year-old legendary Highlife musician, multi-instrumentalist and stage dynamo Fatai Rolling Dollar is dead.
Born Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju in Ede, Oyo State on July 22, 1926, the veteran musician died about 9.00 a.m. this morning in a hospital in Surulere, Lagos. His death was confirmed to our reporter at the hospital by his wife Zanaib Olagunju and second son, Adewunmi Olagunju.
As a Muslim, it is likely the Agidigbo maestro would be buried before the day is over but presently, family members are making arrangements to convey the body which has been released with a death certificate by the hospital.
The exact cause of death is yet to be disclosed by the family but it may not be unrelated to his recent ill-health for which he was admitted and treated at Ahmadiyya Hospital, along Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos. **National Mirror** had visited the veteran artiste on Thursday, June 6, the day he was to be discharged from the hospital and our reporter observed that in spite of the clean bill of health, the singer did not appear to be out of the woods.
In contemporary times, the octogenarian is best remembered for his melodic signature song, “Won Kere Si Number”.
